UCS Privacy Policy

University Career Services at the University of Virginia is committed to providing privacy of personal information for our clients. University Career Services operates computer systems that are developed and maintained by our technical services team. We also partner with external organizations for our job listing and On-Grounds Interviewing services. Information collected by our in-house system, MyUCS, is only accessible to University Career Services staff and is used to provide and tailor services to our customers. This information is also used to construct mid-year and annual aggregate reports that assist us in program planning. Any information shared with third parties is only shared in aggregate form.

Data collected by University Career Services through MyUCS are stored in a secure SQL server at University Career Services. These systems use cookies, and some collect system information such as IP address and browser versions. Collection and access to student information is governed by university and federal policy under the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as well as the statement regarding Privacy Rights of Students at the University of Virginia.

CAVLink is University Career Services’ online system for job listings, on-Grounds interviewing, and career fair registration. These services are provided through NACElink. NACElink is an alliance of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), a nonprofit professional organization for career centers and employers, the Direct Employers Association, a nonprofit association of national employers and Symplicity Corporation, a state-of-the-art technology provider of web-based tools and software solutions.

Although University Career Services maintains ownership of all student profile data and resumes in CAVLink, this information will reside on NACElink Network servers, and policies governing this data are covered in the NACElink Privacy Policy and the Direct Employers Privacy Policy. All privacy policies for our partners have been reviewed by University Career Services.

Student and employer information from CAVLink/NACElink may be used to construct aggregate reports that assist University Career Services in program planning for statistical reports or to inform clients of services and programs that may be of interest. This information may also be used to troubleshoot problems and is accessible only to University Career Services staff. Any information shared with parties outside of University Career Services is only shared in aggregate form.

Jobs, internships, and externships posted in the CAVLink/NACElink system may or may not be reviewed before posting. Clients are urged to validate job postings and use caution and common sense when applying. The University Career Services staff strongly advises students to not disclose social security numbers, credit card information or bank account numbers to unknown employers. The University of Virginia and University Career Services cannot be held responsible and/or liable for any damages, real or imagined, past, present, or future, from the information contained in or requested by the job postings.
