Policies specific to On-Grounds Interviewing (OGI)

No Shipping of Company Literature

Due to space constraints and increased use of Internet technology, University Career Services no longer accepts shipment of or maintains employer literature, either printed or videotapes. Similarly, posters or flyers are not displayed in University Career Services. Recruiters should bring any handouts with them the day of interviewing. For information about your organization, all students are encouraged to visit Web sites. Additionally, the CAVLink system permits all OGI organizations to include Website links. Again, no pre-shipment of materials to the UCS office will be accepted. Note: Career Fairs do accept pre-shipment of displays and materials to a third-party shipping vendor with whom UCS partners. Career Fairs (with the exception of Diversity Career Day when it is held away from U.Va. Grounds) do not accept pre-shipment of displays and materials directly to the fair site. Please contact the coordinator of the fair for shipping information.

Cancelled and Late Interview Schedules

If, for any reason, your organization needs to cancel interview schedules or recruiting dates, notify the UCS Recruiting Staff immediately. For the benefit of the students, we require that employers who cancel contact students directly about their disposition with the organization. This applies to all schedules that are cancelled after 5 business days prior to the interview date.

Greeters/Recruiting Coordinators

Due to limitations of our recruiting area, there is no extra working space for representatives of your company. The only company representatives who can be accommodated with phones and datelines are those who are interviewing candidates in reserved rooms. Additional representatives are welcome to sit in the student waiting area.

Testing Policy

University Career Services' facilities are to be used by employers solely for the purpose of interviewing with students from U.Va.. Employers who need to conduct employment-related tests should make arrangements for testing facilities at nearby hotels.

Employers who do decide to conduct tests at nearby hotels are required to follow the guidelines set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Per their guidelines, those engaged in administering, evaluating, and interpreting assessment tools, tests, and technology used in selection will be trained and qualified to do so. Employment professionals must advise University Career Services of any test conducted. Employment professionals must advise students in a timely fashion of the type and purpose of any test that students will be required to take as part of the recruitment process and to whom the test results will be disclosed. This information should be posted within the context of the job description so that students are informed in the beginning of the recruitment process.

Two-on-One Interviews

Since this may be the first formal interview that a student has ever had, U.Va. requires that employers inform students of this recruiting strategy within the context of the job description that is posted online. This will help to better prepare students, inevitably benefiting the employer as well.

Student No Show Policy

University Career Services (UCS) at U.Va. treats “no shows” very seriously. Students who are reported as “no shows” on the employer evaluation form are immediately made ineligible in the On-Grounds Interviewing Program. In order to regain eligibility, students are required to write a letter of explanation and apology to your firm, and to meet individually with appropriate departmental career services staff. All students are required to sign a Student Agreement Form (pdf) in order to participate in On-Grounds Interviewing.
