Health and Law Professions Advising
U.Va.'s Health and Law Professions Advising office provides support for students preparing for careers in the health and law professions. Our mission is to guide those interested in health and legal careers toward setting realistic expectations, understanding professional school admissions requirements, and maximizing their undergraduate experiences in preparation for a successful career. We offer services at every step of the process: choosing prerequisite coursework, seeking experience outside the classroom, taking relevant admissions tests, establishing a credentials file, and selecting schools. We offer drop-in hours for quick consultations, as well as scheduled appointments with the health and law professions advisors. To keep informed of events and common concerns related to their area of interest, students are encouraged to subscribe to uva-prelaw and uva-healthprof, two email distribution lists available to students and alumni.
- Academic Excellence - To promote optimal performance in the classroom.
- Advocacy - To coach the individual as much as possible, while building a supportive community for health and law students at U.Va.
- Self-Awareness - To help students recognize that the most successful applicants to professional school have reflected on their strengths and weaknesses, and can talk about their accomplishments with candor and confidence.
Individual Advising Appointments - Bryant Hall @ Scott Stadium
Individual advising appointments are offered throughout the year, Monday through Friday. These appointments are 30 minutes in length and can focus on any topic related to your interest in the health or law professions. To make an appointment call (434) 924-8900 or come by the UCS office in Bryant Hall. Please do not contact an advisor directly to make an appointment.
Drop-Ins - Monroe Hall, Room 263
Monroe Hall Drop-Ins are an additional and convenient way for students to receive advice or guidance without having to schedule a 30 minute appointment at our Bryant Hall Office. Sign-up sheets will be set out at the beginning of each session at our Monroe Room 263 office for students to sign-up for a 15 minute time slot. Once you have signed in you are not required to wait at the location, but you are responsible for returning for your drop-in time. Monroe Hall Drop-Ins are a great way to get questions answered, or resources quickly if your advising needs do not require a half hour appointment, and you don't have to wait to schedule, you can simply show up at any time while the office is open!
