Preprofessional Advising Services
Who We Are
U.Va.’s Preprofessional Advising office provides support for students and alumni preparing for careers in law, medicine, and the other health professions (dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, pharmacy, and physical therapy). Our mission is to guide those interested in legal and health careers toward setting realistic expectations, understanding professional school admissions requirements, and maximizing their undergraduate experiences in preparation for a successful career. We offer services at every step of the process: choosing coursework, seeking experience outside the classroom, taking relevant admissions tests, establishing a credentials file, and selecting schools. We hold informational meetings for both prelaw and prehealth students of all class years. We also offer daily walk-in hours for quick consultations, as well as scheduled appointments with the preprofessional advisors. At the close of each application cycle, our office analyzes applicant activity in order to assist future applicants in evaluating their chances of acceptance at certain schools. To keep informed of events and common concerns related to their area of interest, students are encouraged to subscribe to uva-prelaw and uva-prehealth, two email distribution lists available to enrolled students and alumni.

- Self-Awareness—To help students recognize that the most successful applicants to professional school have reflected on their strengths and weaknesses, and can talk about their accomplishments with candor and confidence

PreHealth: This listserv is a great way to find out about events around the University of interest to ALL prehealth students. The Preprofessional Advising staff strongly recommend that you subscribe to this list; the advisor will be posting important announcements (deadlines, meetings, visiting experts, etc) periodically through this listserv. You receive an e-newsletter biweekly, sometimes once a week, from Preprofessional Advising. You will not receive email from anyone else on the list. Subscribe online!
