(Word)2009 scholarship recipient Courtney HildebrandCourtney is a May 2010 graduate majoring in Sociology. For my internship in Dublin I have had the pleasure of interning for Public Communications Centre, Ireland’s leading strategic marketing, campaigning and fundraising agency for non-profit organizations and causes. As assistant project manager I have worked closely with Director, John Sutton and Project Manager, Susan Smith in a range of day-to-day tasks related to PCC’s programme of work. My involvement with PCC has been to assist with the strategic planning, media, PR, and consultation work for clientele such as BeLonG To, an organization for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) young people, National Coalition for the Blind Ireland, Dial to Stop Drugs Taskforce, and the Children’s Medical and Research Foundation. Moreover, I have been able to work on direct marketing campaigns and fundraising appeals for various organisations in Ireland. EligibilityAn applicant must be a 3rd year University student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. Applicants must have been offered or obtained a Summer 2010 internship in their field of interest. A letter confirming the internship offer must be submitted with the application. Interns must be enrolled at least one semester after the end of the internship. Selection CriteriaIn evaluating applications, high priority will be placed on:

The AwardThe award will total up to $2,000 per summer. The amount may vary according to the funds available and the competitiveness of the student’s application. Students who are awarded the scholarship are expected to write a thank you note to the donor, sharing their plans for the internship and describing how the scholarship will enable their internship experience. This letter must be sent to the donor before the funds will be released by UCS. DeadlineThe application deadline is 12:00pm on Monday, April 5, 2010. Applicants must submit complete applications to the UCS front desk. It is strongly advised to have your resume and application reviewed before they are submitted. Failure to do so will be considered a material breach of the program requirements, subjecting the student to forfeiture or repayment of the awarded funds. Exceptions to this forfeiture/repayment requirement will be granted only in extreme and unusual circumstances (determined by UCS in its sole discretion). Past Larry Simpson Scholarship Recipients![]() 2008: Kate Mason, CLAS 2009Kate is a May 2009 graduate majoring in Foreign Affairs, with a minor in History. In the summer of 2008 she interned with the Public Defender Service in Washington , D.C. As an Intern Investigator with the Criminal Law Internship Program, Kate was paired with attorneys and completed a significant portion of the investigative work related to the assigned attorney’s cases -- including interviewing witnesses, photographing the crime scenes, and testifying in court. 2007: Ayumi Nakamura, CLAS 2008Ayumi is double-majoring in Biology and Neuroscience and will graduate from the College in May of 2008. In summer 2007, she interned with the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore, MD. Working as an undergraduate researcher in their Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ayumi studied how the body’s immune system is related to the aging process. ![]() 2006: Timothy Ly, CLAS 2007Timothy double-majored in Anthropology and Political & Social Thought and graduated from the College in May of 2007.
