How to use UCS Library resources

Materials may either be used in the library or they may be checked out for up to seven days. Materials that may be checked out are marked with a green “check out”sticker. Major occupational guides, directories, and loose-leaf binders cannot leave the library and are so marked with a red “not available for checkout”sticker. These are reference resources which are costly and in much demand. Please respect the needs of your fellow students and keep these resources in UCS. A copier is available in the Library. Copies cost 8 cents per page with your CAV Advantage card.

How to check a book out

Books must be checked out and returned at the cart next to the Information Desk.

  1. Print your name, address, telephone number, social security number, email address, and resource I.D. number on the checkout page. You may check out up to 1 book at a time.
  2. Please date stamp your books, with the stamp provided on the cart.
  3. Books must be returned within 7 days to the Reception Desk. Notices of overdue books will be emailed. If a book is not returned in a timely manner, the Bursar's office will be notified. A hold is placed on your record until either the book(s) is returned or restitution is made.

Removal of unchecked Library materials is theft and is considered a violation of the Honor System.

How the Library is organized

All materials in the UCS Library are listed in the Keyword Reference System, a computer program that references books in the library by title, subject, and/or author. Keyword Reference can be accessed through the computer terminals in the Career Library. The “Help/Instructions”option which appears on the Keyword menu is a brief 3 minute tutorial which will be of help to new users. Books are arranged in the library by general categories and occupations.

UCAN Network

Online resource. Over 12,000 U.Va. graduates who have volunteered to serve as career mentors. The alumni come from various professions and career fields, and are searchable by location, career area, and company name. Learn more about UCAN.

CAVLink

A listing service which includes externship, internship, part-time, and full-time job postings from employers specifically targeting U.Va. students. Also includes job search agents, resume and transcript storage for online job application submission and acces to On-Grounds Interviewing (OGI). Access CAVLink now!
